Coloured light is able to create greater balance in the nervous system. This balancing is crucial when dealing with disease and illness as it can have major positive effects on the respiratory, circulatory and digestive systems as well as reducing stress levels.
It has been shown that the Hypothalamus (centre of the brain) can be greatly
affected by exposure to light. The Hypothalamus is responsible for organising
information, initiating stress reactions, regulating the immune system, reproduction,
thirst, hunger, temperature, emotion and sleep. It also hosts the biological
clock of the body, regulates most functions of the pituitary gland and controls
the nervous system.
Light stimulates the hypothalamus, which then stimulates the pineal gland, the
light meter of the body. It transforms light waves (received through the eyes)
into neuronal impulses and hormonal messages by melatonin. Melatonin is produced
and released by the pineal gland in the presence of light. The pineal gland
and melatonin are our physiological and hormonal connections with our environment
and the universe.
Light and colour make a bridge between spirit and matter.
